PhotoTrace Map Support
PhotoTrace Map helps you map camera photos and videos by using nearby GPS-tagged reference photos in the same folder, then review anything that still needs a location.
Getting started
- Choose one trip folder that includes your camera photos, videos, and GPS-tagged phone photos if possible.
- Wait for the scan to finish reading metadata and matching missing locations.
- Open map points to review mapped media by place.
- Use the GPS Unidentified page to review unmatched groups, remove wrongly grouped items, and apply a nearby match.
How matching works
- Embedded GPS coordinates are used directly when available.
- Photos and videos without GPS may be matched from nearby capture times using GPS-tagged photos in the same folder as reference points.
- Camera RAW formats and common video formats are supported during scanning.
- Items that still cannot be matched remain in GPS Unidentified for review.
GPS Unidentified workflow
- Each missing group is shown as a task queue based on date.
- Review the photos in the group first and remove any item that should be split into its own new group.
- Use a nearby match recommendation, online place search, or a visited place to fix the whole group.
- Apply changes to refresh the results after queuing edits.
Troubleshooting
- If folder contents changed, return to the map and run Rescan.
- If place names are missing, use the unknown place-name action to resolve them and save them to cache.
- If thumbnails look incorrect or take too much space, clear the thumbnail cache from Settings.
- If there are not enough GPS-tagged reference photos in the selected folder, matching results may be limited.
