PhotoTrace Map Privacy Policy

Effective date: April 3, 2026

PhotoTrace Map is designed to map camera photos and videos while keeping scanning, matching, and review data local to your Mac as much as possible.

What the app accesses

  • Folders and media files that you explicitly choose.
  • Photo and video metadata, including timestamps, GPS coordinates, file formats, and duration.
  • Local thumbnails, scan cache, place-name cache, manual GPS edits, and GPS-unidentified review state generated to improve browsing and matching.

What stays on your device

  • Photo and video analysis runs locally on your Mac.
  • Manual GPS assignments, exclusions, scan cache, place-name cache, and thumbnails are stored locally in Application Support.
  • The app does not require an account.
  • The app does not upload your photo library to a developer-operated cloud service.

Optional network use

  • If you use place-name lookup, reverse geocoding, or online place search, the app may contact Apple map services to convert coordinates into place names or return search results.
  • If you do not use those features, core scanning, grouping, matching, and review remain local.

Data sharing

PhotoTrace Map does not sell your personal data. The app is intended to function primarily as a local desktop tool for your own media library.

Your control

  • You choose which folders the app can access.
  • You can clear thumbnail, scan, and place-name caches from the app.
  • You can remove local app data by deleting the app's Application Support files.
  • You can stop using place-name lookup and online search features at any time.
